OptiEdit is a browser-based editor for quick notes, formatted documents, technical writing and local source files. It combines a familiar rich-text editor with Word DOCX support, Markdown live preview, voice typing, image preview, code tools, local files, folder workspaces, import/export and offline support.

The editor supports simple document editing and more advanced file-based workflows without forcing either mode on you. If a browser or linked disk document was open when you last used OptiEdit, it reopens automatically; otherwise the start screen provides simple New document, Open file and Open folder/workspace actions.

Rich-text editing features

Local files and folder workspaces
On browsers that support the File System Access API, OptiEdit can open and save supported local files directly and can work with a selected folder. Other browsers continue to support normal import and export.
Storage distinction: browser documents are stored locally in IndexedDB. Files opened from your computer or folder workspace remain files on your computer and are not copied into the browser document library unless you explicitly import them.

Voice typing
Choose Dictate or Voice typing to insert recognized speech at the current cursor in rich text, Markdown or code. Browser support varies. Depending on the browser, speech recognition may use an online recognition service and may not work offline.
AI Rewrite
AI Rewrite is optional and applies only when you explicitly request it. The opened rich-text document is sent to the configured enhancement service, and a successful result is applied as one isolated editor history change so Undo restores the exact previous content. If the document changes while the request is running, OptiEdit does not overwrite the newer edit.

Offline use and privacy
OptiEdit is an installable progressive web app. After its editor resources have been loaded and cached, the core app can work offline. Browser documents are stored locally. Aggregate usage analytics may be collected, but document text is sent to the configured AI enhancement service only when AI Rewrite is explicitly used. Voice typing uses the browser speech-recognition implementation, which may process speech through an online service depending on the browser.

Is OptiEdit free to use?
Yes. OptiEdit is free and does not require an account.
Where are my documents saved?
Browser documents are stored locally in IndexedDB on the current device/browser. Folder workspace files stay in the folder you selected.
Can OptiEdit work offline?
Yes. After the required application resources have been cached, OptiEdit can run as an offline-capable PWA.
Can I use OptiEdit on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The workspace is responsive and includes mobile actions. Feature availability for direct file/folder access depends on the mobile browser.
Can I open and export Microsoft Word documents?
Yes. OptiEdit supports DOCX import/direct opening and Microsoft Word DOCX export. PDF, HTML, Markdown and plain-text export remain available.
Can I export a document to PDF?
Yes. Use Export current → PDF document.
Can I edit code?
Yes. Use syntax-highlighted rich-text code blocks or open supported local/workspace source files in the dedicated code editor.
Does AI Rewrite automatically send my documents anywhere?
No. Document text is sent to the configured enhancement service only after you explicitly choose AI Rewrite.
