The picture below shows that 40% of the visitors to one of our websites coming from Twitter. 40% from 60k visitors is 24,000 visitors - it is alot, and it is real.
What the secret? No secrets at all. All you need is to have right audience on Twitter, use the right hashtags, and links to your website where users can get more relevant information. In this example each tweet had short (not full) information, had picture and link to the page where users can find the rest of information. Tweets sent frequuently, 24/7. That is all.
